Release: WordsFlow 2.13 for InDesign CS5–CC2018

August 22, 2018 by

This release greatly improves Word exports, adds a way to directly create WordsFlow links, and makes placing with WordsFlow scriptable.

Changes

  • Adds Link to Original Document in the text and layout context menus, where it can be used to create an impromptu WordsFlow link between an existing story and an external document without changing the story. This can be handy if you need to repair an existing link or if you’ve placed a file without a link, have made subsequent edits, and now need to pull in changes from the original file with a WordsFlow Update. Be careful, though, to only link to the original, base file in order to avoid undesirable content and styling changes when you next update the link.
  • Adds scripting support for Link to Original Document with a new linkTo() method (“link to” in AppleScript) on the story object, to link a story directly with a file (without actually placing that file).

    linkTo(file, showing options)

  • Adds a separator between the Place with WordsFlow… and Place without WordsFlow… menu entries so that it’s not as easy to accidentally click on the wrong one.
  • Gives a warning when a Relink to a different (text) file format could unintentionally affect the story’s applied styling.
  • Fixes a long-standing issue where Import Options weren’t being saved on an exported story, which was leading to problems when updating the new link (such as duplicated images).
  • Fixes a problem where an Export with WordsFlow could add unwanted styles to the document.
  • Adds full scripting support for Place with WordsFlow with a new placeWithWordsFlow() method (“place with WordsFlow” in AppleScript) on the document object, to place one or more files like the Place with WordsFlow… menu,

placeWithWordsFlow(file or files, showing options, linking, replacing, applying grid)

and on the page, spread, and master spread objects, to place a file directly onto that page, spread, or master spread.

placeWithWordsFlow(file, place point, destination layer, showing options, linking, autoflowing)

  • Fixes a problem where a story’s original Import Options could be lost during a link update.
  • Exports “Tint Swatch” colors to Word files.
  • Adds intelligent conversion of any Rule Below that looks like highlighting (is wide and negatively offset) into Word text highlighting during Word exports.
  • Fixes a problem where updating a link could sometimes cause table cells to migrate to another table.
  • Fixes a rare problem where added text might not be pulled in during an update.
  • Fixes Word export issues with headers, cell insets, strokes, and cell vertical alignment.
  • Fixes bold/italic problems in exported documents.
  • Works around an InDesign bug that could prevent the export of stories with index markers.
